This is the best evenhanded discussion I’ve heard about the promises and threats of AI, with Ezra Klein interviewing Vox’s Kelsey Piper, on various aspects of AI safety.
The discussion in this podcast is very accessible, but also deep and intelligent, with a good dose of humor sprinkled in.
Recent surveys of AI experts have found that they think, on average, there’s about a 10% chance that this technology (advanced AI) may lead to “an extremely bad outcome (e.g. human extinction)” for humanity.
Why on Earth would we be doing this with those kinds of chances of extremely bad outcomes and even extinction?
Where is Congress? Where are the full and deep societal debates about this technology happening?
