You may well be right. I'm a fan of Charles Eisenstein's work and his epic book The Ascent of Humanity argues that we are nearing the apotheosis of a many millennia long "ascent" of the control paradigm but that "descent masquerades as ascent" in many key ways, and particularly for the quality of human life. I'm a huge fan of electronic direct democracy b/c I see this as the best way forward and the best antidote to the top-down control paradigm.
